"Mother" vs "Father"
The begining of chapter 11 makes quite clear the different connotations of the words "mother" and "father" in this society. "Father" is more like a joke, its funny, and the Director is called things like "poor man". However Linda is treated like a monster, not just because of her appearance but because she had carried the baby to term. What im wondering is if this isn't an inherently sexist stream of thought for society. The Director is just as responsible for the creation of this child, but because Linda was abandoned with no other option than to carry it, she is a monster while he is just a joke.
